What changed on January 1, 2026: the $200 NFA transfer/making tax dropped to $0 for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and AOWs under H.R.1. Machine guns and destructive devices still owe $200 — and the ATF approval process (fingerprints, photos, Form 4, wait) applies to everything, exactly as before. Full breakdown: 2026 NFA changes.
№ 01 · The problem

More stamps, same paperwork purgatory

Free stamps mean more customers walking in for cans and SBRs — and every one of them becomes a months-long open file: a Form 3 in from your distributor, a Form 4 out to the customer, a pending-approval item that can’t leave the safe, CLEO copies, fingerprints, certification dates, and a customer calling weekly to ask “any word?” Multiply that by a growing NFA book and a spreadsheet stops being a system.

№ 02 · The definition

What is NFA software?

NFA software is dealer tooling for the Title II side of the business: it manages Form 1 and Form 4 workflows, tracks every tax stamp application from submission to approval, holds pending items in a reserved state so nothing transfers early, maintains your NFA registry, and keeps SOT obligations visible. General retail software has no concept of “sold but can’t leave for eight months” — NFA software is built around it.

№ 03 · What NFA-BRO does

The whole Title II workflow, one screen

📋 Form 1 / Form 4 workflow

Guided workflows from intake to approval — the right form, the right fields, the right sequence, every time.

🎫 Tax stamp tracking

Every application tracked from submitted to approved, so “any word on my stamp?” is a ten-second lookup, not a file dig.

⚖ SOT compliance

Special Occupational Taxpayer obligations stay visible — including the annual July 1 renewal cycle (ATF Form 5630.7) that catches dealers every year.

🗄 Full NFA registry

Your complete Title II inventory in one registry: what’s in, what’s pending, what’s approved, what transferred.

🔒 Pending-item protection

Items awaiting stamps are held distinct from sellable stock — the workflow itself prevents an early transfer.

🔗 Plays well with the suite

Runs fully standalone — and pairs with the FFL-BRO electronic bound book if you’re on the platform.

№ 04 · 2026 reality check

What the $0 stamp means for dealers

ItemTax since Jan 1, 2026Process
Suppressors$0Form 4 / Form 1, NICS, fingerprints, wait — unchanged
Short-barreled rifles (SBR)$0Unchanged
Short-barreled shotguns (SBS)$0Unchanged
Any Other Weapons (AOW)$0Unchanged
Machine guns$200 (still)Unchanged
Destructive devices$200 (still)Unchanged

The tax was never the bottleneck for dealers — the tracking was. Zero-dollar stamps remove the customer’s last excuse, which means more Form 4s in flight at once. The dealers who win 2026 are the ones whose pipeline can absorb the volume. New to Title II? Start with FFL types & SOT classes and the eForms guide, then the full NFA education hub.

№ 06 · FAQ

NFA software FAQ

Did the 2026 change eliminate NFA paperwork?
No. H.R.1 zeroed the tax for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs as of January 1, 2026, but every application still goes through the full ATF process — Form 4 or Form 1, fingerprints, photographs, background check, and the wait. Machine guns and destructive devices still owe the $200 tax.
Do I need a special license to deal NFA items?
You need an SOT (Special Occupational Taxpayer) endorsement on top of your FFL — commonly a Class 3 SOT for dealers. SOTs renew annually on the federal tax year (July 1–June 30) via ATF Form 5630.7. Details: FFL types & SOT classes.
Does NFA-BRO require the full FFL-BRO platform?
No. NFA-BRO runs standalone at $99/month with the complete Form 1/4 workflow, tax stamp tracking, SOT compliance, and NFA registry. It also pairs with the FFL-BRO suite if you’re on it.
Can it stop a pending NFA item from being transferred early?
Yes — that’s the point of the registry workflow. Items awaiting stamp approval are held distinct from sellable inventory, so an approved transfer is the only path out the door.
How do I track a customer’s tax stamp status?
Every application is tracked from submission through approval in one view — when a customer calls, the answer is a lookup, not an archaeology project.

The stamp is free. Your time isn’t.
